Mastro made novelty and toy plastic musical instruments in the 1950s and 60s; as with Selco's contribution to the same area, their Beatles items are highly sought after. This is a ukulele banjo which will play although with the entire instrument being plastic it will not have the resonance of the "real thing". It has normal uke strings and the words "standard ukulele tuning" appear on the headstock.
The machine heads have been replaced with some of a similar vintage and pattern to the originals (one does not quite match) and the wooden bridge is not the original. There are some small splits in the plastic around the tailpiece but these appear to have been stabilised. The uke is the size of an ordinary uke: 22 inches long.
