The mandriola is a variant of the mandolin, originating in Eastern European folk music, and is a similar size. (Scale length 13 inches, overall length 25½ inches). The twelve strings are arranged in threes rather than in pairs and, on this instrument, one string in each course is tuned an octave lower than the other two. This would point to its being one of the earlier examples; the first madriolas date from around 1900. The table has a little unevenness which does not affect the playing action, this is an instrument in playing order. There are several scuffs, scratches and other blemishes as a result of use, and there is a stable repair to the headstock. There has also been a repair to a small crack in the table.
