A one string phono fiddle by Strohviols, dating from about 1910. This one has a nice big horn, made from nickel plated brass. The knee rests are aluminium and still have their felt pads. In good playing order. Overall length 35". Length of bell from the bend in the connecting tube: 16" approximately. Diameter of bell 7½ " approximately. The four string version of the phono fiddle was developed to cope with the microphones used in the early days of recording. The one string version such as this on were used in novelty music hall acts. Moon River sounds good on one; I can vouch for that.
