This bassoon carries the serial number 29335 which means it was made around 1930, at about the time that Boosey & Co were merging with Hawkes and Son. It is mainly wooden but has the bakelite first joint typical of bassoons of this era; bakelite was a relatively new material then and its use meant that this complicatedly shaped joint could be produced more cheaply. It plays but an overhaul of pads and keys would improve it. It comes in a wooden case which has no handle.
